Javan Kingfisher, Halcyon cyanoventris, is a kingfisher of Java and Bali in the Oriental Region. It is a resident bird found across a wide spread of habitats, from pastures, paddyfields and marshes to mangroves, dry forest, parks, gardens and orchards. It is also recorded in urban and suburban areas with suitable trees. The bird has a large red bill and a purple body, with turquoise on the wings and tail, and white wing patches that show in flight. It is highly territorial and nests in burrows dug into earthen walls or riverbanks, laying round white eggs.
