Jungle Nightjar

Caprimulgus indicus Latham, 1790

Jungle Nightjar, Caprimulgus indicus, breeds in India and Sri Lanka in the Oriental Region. It is a nightjar of the Indian subcontinent, most often associated with forest edges, and it is active at dusk. The species has a complex taxonomic history and has also been known as the grey nightjar and the Indian jungle nightjar. Its scientific name means nightjar from India. The Indian and Sri Lankan populations are included here, while other related forms have been treated separately in some works. It was described by Latham in 1790.
