Rhynochetidae — Kagu

Kagu, Rhynochetos jubatus, breeds on Grande Terre in New Caledonia and belongs to the family Rhynochetidae in the order Eurypygiformes. It is a bird of the island’s dense mountain forests, and it is the only living member of its genus and family. Its most distinctive feature is its nasal corns, which are not found in any other bird. The species was described by Verreaux and des Murs in 1860. It is also known as cagou.
