Large Frogmouth

Batrachostomus auritus (Gray, JE, 1829)

Large Frogmouth, Batrachostomus auritus, is a bird of the Oriental Region, breeding in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, the northern Natuna Islands, Borneo and Labuan. It belongs to the frogmouth family and was described by Gray in 1829. It is much bigger than other birds in its genus. Its plumage is variable, with chestnut and blackish-brown upperparts marked with white and buff, and dull brown to pale rufous underparts. The bill is horn-coloured with a darker tip, the gape is yellow, and the legs are dull yellow.
