Eurostopodus argus
The Large-tailed Nightjar is a nocturnal bird species found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia and Australia. It is known for its distinctive call, which consists of a series of loud, repetitive churring notes. This species has a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage during the day, and it is primarily active at dusk and dawn. Large-tailed Nightjars feed on flying insects, which they catch in mid-air using their wide gape and bristle-like rictal bristles. They are known for their aerial acrobatics and agile flight. Breeding males perform elaborate aerial displays to attract females. The species is generally elusive and difficult to observe due to its nocturnal habits and cryptic coloration.
