Lark Bunting

Calamospiza melanocorys

The Lark Bunting (Calamospiza melanocorys) is a medium-sized sparrow found in the western United States. Males are striking with black bodies and white wing patches, while females are brown and streaked. During the breeding season, males perform elaborate flight displays to attract females. Lark Buntings prefer open grasslands and prairies where they forage for seeds and insects. They are known for their melodious songs and can be found in large flocks during migration. Their conservation status is of Least Concern according to the IUCN Red List.
