Limpkin

Aramus guarauna

The Limpkin is a large, unique wading bird found in wetlands and marshes of the Americas. It is known for its loud, piercing call and its distinctive appearance, with mottled brown plumage, long neck, and downward-curved bill. Limpkins primarily feed on apple snails and other aquatic invertebrates, using their long bill to extract the soft body from the shell. They are solitary birds and are often seen wading through shallow water in search of food. Limpkins are considered to be of least concern in terms of conservation status, but they face threats from habitat loss and pollution.
