Coba Birding Tour with Lagoon and Ruins
A birdwatching tour around Coba combining secondary forest, lagoon habitat and the Coba archaeological zone.
About this tour
Bird the mixed vegetation around Cobá, situated between Valladolid and Tulum. Secondary forest close to the village can hold Yucatan Jay, White-bellied Emerald, Yellow-winged and Blue-gray Tanagers, flycatchers and other peninsula birds, especially during the cooler early hours.
The nearby lagoon adds cattail, riparian and open-water habitat, creating opportunities for Northern Jacana, Bare-throated Tiger-Heron, Limpkin and other aquatic species. Moving between forest edge and wetland allows a wider range of birds than either habitat would provide alone.
The outing can also include the Cobá archaeological zone, where shaded forest paths combine birding with Maya history. Red-crowned Ant-Tanager, Ocellated Turkey and additional forest species are possible, although activity varies by season and time of day. The balance between lagoon, forest and ruins is set around guest interests and current access.
