Tigrisoma mexicanum
The Bare-throated Tiger-Heron is a medium-sized heron found in the wetlands and lowland forests of Central and South America. It is characterized by its striking appearance, with a distinctive black and white striped pattern on the neck and chest, and a long, pointed bill. These herons are skilled hunters, feeding on fish, amphibians, and small reptiles. They are often found near water bodies, patiently waiting to ambush their prey. The species is known for its solitary nature and is typically seen alone or in pairs. Despite being relatively widespread, the Bare-throated Tiger-Heron faces threats from habitat loss and human disturbance.
