Puffinus assimilis
The Little Shearwater (Puffinus assimilis) is a small seabird found in the southern hemisphere. It has a dark brown plumage with a white underbelly and distinctive white markings on the face. These birds are highly adapted for life at sea, with long, narrow wings and a streamlined body that allows them to glide effortlessly over the ocean surface. Little Shearwaters are skilled fliers and can cover vast distances during their migrations. They breed in colonies on remote islands, nesting in burrows or crevices. Their diet consists mainly of small fish and squid, which they catch by diving into the water. Despite their wide distribution, Little Shearwaters face threats from introduced predators and habitat degradation.
