Arachnothera longirostra (Latham, 1790)

Little Spiderhunter, Arachnothera longirostra, is a widespread breeding bird of the Oriental Region, occurring across moist forests and other wooded habitats in South and Southeast Asia. It is a nectar feeder and is usually encountered below the canopy, often close to flowering plants, gardens or nectar-rich trees. Its most striking feature is the long bill that gives it its name. Males and females look much alike, though the female has a paler base to the lower mandible and the male’s bill is entirely black. It is often seen alone or in pairs, and it gives a regular tzeck call.
