Long-whiskered Owlet

Long-whiskered Owlet, Xenoglaux loweryi, is an owl of northern Peru in South America, where it breeds in a very limited part of the Andes. It is the only species in its genus and was first described by O'Neill and Graves in 1977. The bird is tied to humid montane forest and elfin forest, with records from places such as Abra Patricia, La Esperanza and the Cordillera Colán. Its name comes from the long, thin feathers that extend beyond the face. Known sites lie in Amazonas and San Martín, and all are in the north of Peru.
