Malabar Trogon, Harpactes fasciatus, is a bird of the trogon family that breeds in India and Sri Lanka. It is mainly associated with forested areas, including the Western Ghats, hill forests of central India and parts of the Eastern Ghats. A notable feature is that males and females differ in plumage. The species is not migratory, though it may shift seasonally in hill forest areas when the rains change. It gives low, guttural calls that are only heard at close range, and it often sits motionless on branches beneath the canopy.
