Maranon Crescentchest, Melanopareia maranonica, is a passerine of the Melanopareiidae found in southern Ecuador and northern Peru, mainly in the Marañón River valley and its tributaries. It lives in tropical deciduous forest and dry scrub at 200 to 700 m. The male has a black crown and nape, a greyish olive back and rump, white or light buff on the chin and throat, a dark band below the throat, a chestnut breast and tawny underparts. The female is similar, but with a narrower dark band and ochraceous tawny below it.
