Mediterranean Short-toed Lark
Alaudala rufescens (Vieillot, 1819)
Alaudidae — Larks
Mediterranean Short-toed Lark, Alaudala rufescens, is a passerine of the Palearctic, breeding in southern Europe, the central and eastern Canary Islands, North Africa and the Levant as far west Iraq. It is a lark of the Mediterranean region and nearby areas, with a broad span from the Canary Islands to the Iberian Peninsula and across North Africa into the Middle East. It was once treated as part of a wider lesser short-toed lark grouping, but a 2020 split separated the Mediterranean birds from the Central Asian population.
