Military Macaw

Ara militaris

The Military Macaw (Ara militaris) is a striking medium-sized parrot found in the forests of Mexico and South America. Recognized by its predominantly green plumage, this species features a red forehead, blue wing feathers, and a distinctive red patch on the underside of its wings. Known for its raucous calls and gregarious nature, the Military Macaw forms strong pair bonds and often congregates in large flocks. This species primarily feeds on fruits, seeds, and nuts, and plays a vital role in seed dispersal within its habitat. Due to habitat loss and capture for the pet trade, the Military Macaw faces conservation challenges.
