Monteiro's Hornbill, Tockus monteiri, lives in dry woodland, savannah and dry thornveldt across south-west Angola and north Namibia. It is a hornbill of the Bucerotidae family, described by Hartlaub in 1865. The species is closely tied to this arid region and is especially associated with Namibia. It is a medium-sized bird and is noted as the largest member of the small Tockus genus. Females are smaller than males and can be told by their turquoise facial skin. The nest is placed on rock faces or in trees, and breeding follows a good rainy season.
