Mountain Parakeet, Psilopsiagon aurifrons, is a South American parakeet of the Andes in western Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Argentina. It lives in puna grassland and other high-altitude shrubland, and also uses scrub, rough grassland, river-edge vegetation, agricultural land, parks and gardens. Four subspecies are recognised, each with its own part of the range. This small bird is a sociable ground and scrub forager, taking buds, berries and seeds. It breeds in holes or crevices in rocky places, cliff faces and river banks, and its breeding season varies across its range.
