Mountain Pygmy Owl, Glaucidium gnoma, is an owl of North America and Middle America, breeding from south-west Arizona in the USA to central Mexico. It was described by Wagler in 1832 and belongs to the family Strigidae. It is also known as the northern pygmy owl. Its status as a separate species has been debated because it is very similar in plumage to the northern pygmy owl, while its vocal patterns differ.
