Mountain Velvetbreast, Lafresnaya lafresnayi, is a hummingbird of the Andes in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, breeding from western Venezuela to southern Peru. It belongs to the family Trochilidae and is the only species in its genus. It is a montane bird of humid forest margins and shrubby slopes, usually between 1,800 and 3,400 m. A white mark behind the eye is shared by all subspecies, while the bill varies in length and curve, and the tail pattern also differs across its forms.
