Mouse-colored Tapaculo

Scytalopus griseicollis

The Mouse-colored Tapaculo is a small, inconspicuous bird found in the Andes of South America. It is known for its secretive nature, often skulking on the forest floor and rarely seen. This species has a brownish-gray plumage, with a subtle mottled pattern on the underparts. It has a distinctive, loud song that it uses to communicate in the dense undergrowth. The Mouse-colored Tapaculo forages for insects and small invertebrates in the leaf litter and dense vegetation of its montane forest habitat. Despite its elusive behavior, its vocalizations and habitat preferences have made it a target for birdwatchers and researchers interested in the biodiversity of the Andean cloud forests.
