Mute Swan, Cygnus olor, is a swan in the Anatidae family and the Anseriformes order. Its breeding range covers the Palearctic, from Europe into central Asia. It occurs across much of Europe and parts of Asia, and it is also a rare winter visitor to the far north of Africa. The species has been introduced in North America, where the largest populations outside its native range are found, with smaller introductions in Australasia and Southern Africa. It is known for the prominent knob on the bill, which is larger in males.
