Nicobar Megapode, Megapodius nicobariensis, is a megapode of the Nicobar Islands in India. It is endemic to that island group in the Oriental Region and was described by Blyth in 1846. A notable feature of this bird is its mound nest, made from soil and vegetation, where the eggs are warmed by heat from decay rather than by the parent bird. The young emerge from the loose material already feathered and able to fly. The Nicobar Islands mark the western edge of the group’s range.
