The Nicobar pigeon (Caloenas nicobarica) is a beautiful and distinctive species of pigeon found in the Nicobar Islands, as well as in parts of Southeast Asia and the Pacific. It is known for its striking iridescent plumage, with a metallic green and purple sheen on its neck and breast. The Nicobar pigeon is a medium-sized pigeon with a long, slender neck and a short, rounded tail. It primarily feeds on seeds, fruits, and insects, and is often found in dense forest habitats and coastal areas. This species plays an important ecological role in seed dispersal within its native habitats. Due to habitat loss and hunting pressure, the Nicobar pigeon is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN Red List.
