Nilgiri Thrush

Zoothera neilgherriensis (Blyth, 1847)

Nilgiri Thrush, Zoothera neilgherriensis, is a thrush of the Western Ghats in south-west India, where it is confined to moist shola forests in the high hills. It is closely tied to isolated cloud forest patches among montane grassland, and is also recorded rarely on roadsides during wet weather. Its plumage shows a scaled pattern that helps it blend into the forest floor and lower layers of the habitat. In flight, the black band across the white underwings is the key mark, and the sexes look alike.
