Nkulengu Rail, Himantornis haematopus, is a rail in the family Rallidae that breeds in Africa from Sierra Leone to Uganda and the central Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was described by Hartlaub in 1855. This bird is the only member of its genus, Himantornis, and has long been noted for its unusual place among rails. It is found in rainforest areas and is notoriously hard to see, as it tends to stay hidden. Its loud, distinctive call is often given by pairs.
