Oahu Elepaio

Iole propinqua

The Oahu Elepaio, scientifically known as Iole propinqua, is a small songbird endemic to the island of Oahu in Hawaii. It is known for its distinctive melodious song and agile foraging behavior. This bird primarily inhabits native forests and wooded areas, where it can be observed flitting between branches and foliage in search of insects and small invertebrates. The Oahu Elepaio is characterized by its olive-brown plumage, with a white belly and a prominent white eye-ring. Despite its small size, this species plays a vital role in the ecosystem by contributing to insect control and seed dispersal. Due to habitat loss and predation by invasive species, the Oahu Elepaio is currently listed as Endangered by the IUCN.
