Ouvea Parakeet

Eunymphicus uvaeensis (Layard, EL & Layard, ELC, 1882)

Psittaculidae — Old World Parrots

Ouvea Parakeet, Eunymphicus uvaeensis, is a parrot of the Psittaculidae family that breeds on Ouvea in the Loyalty Islands of New Caledonia. It is confined to that island, including Faiava Island, and was formerly treated as one with the horned parakeet of Grande Terre. The bird has mostly green plumage and a striking crest made of six feathers that curve back and then forward. Its underside is yellower, with bright blue on the wings and tail, while the face is dark and the bill is black.
