About this tour

Visit Ouvéa in the Loyalty Islands for a private 2–3 hour rainforest birding experience focused on the endemic Ouvéa Parakeet. Caledonia Birds works with Benoit Tangopi, a native guide who knows the birds and forest of his customary land.

Possible birds described by the operator include Ouvéa Parakeet, whistlers, fruit doves, myzomelas, New Caledonian Flycatcher, cuckoos, starlings and trillers. Elsewhere on the island, additional possibilities include pigeons, swiftlets, Sacred Kingfisher, Welcome Swallow and a protected Wedge-tailed Shearwater nesting area near Mouli bridge.

Ouvéa is about an hour’s domestic flight from Nouméa. Flights, rental car, accommodation and other island arrangements are separate unless included in the quotation. The entire island is customary land, so visitors must not enter forest or private customary areas without a native guide or permission.
