Peaceful Dove, Geopelia placida, is a pigeon of Australasia, breeding in south-central, north-eastern and south-eastern New Guinea, and across Australia apart from south-western areas and Tasmania. It was described by Gould in 1844. A relatively small pigeon, it is marked by a pink-grey breast, grey-brown chequered wings, and fine black lines on the neck, nape and back. The eye is greyish-white with a blue-grey ring. Young birds are paler and less strongly marked, with a duller eye ring.
