Sula variegata
The Peruvian booby is a seabird found along the coasts of Peru and Chile. It is a medium-sized bird with distinctive black and white plumage, a pale blue bill, and bright blue feet. These birds are highly adapted for marine life, with streamlined bodies and powerful wings for efficient flight. They are skilled divers, plunging into the ocean to catch fish and squid. Peruvian boobies are colonial breeders, nesting in large colonies on coastal cliffs and islands. They are often seen in large flocks, soaring and diving in synchronized patterns. Despite their large numbers, they face threats from habitat disturbance and fishing activities. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their breeding sites and foraging areas.
