Pigeon Guillemot

Cepphus columba

The Pigeon Guillemot is a striking seabird with a distinctive black and white plumage. During the breeding season, its black plumage is accented by bright red feet and a red inner mouth lining. This species is known for its habit of nesting in crevices and burrows along rocky coastlines. Pigeon Guillemots are skilled divers and forage for fish and invertebrates in nearshore waters. They are highly vocal and often seen in pairs or small groups. This species is an important indicator of the health of marine ecosystems and is vulnerable to the impacts of pollution and habitat degradation.
