Pigeon Guillemot, Cepphus columba, is an auk of the North Pacific coast, breeding from eastern Russia through the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands to Alaska and south to central California, with a non-breeding range in the northern Pacific Ocean. It nests on rocky shores, cliffs and islands near shallow water, and in winter some birds shift within the range as ice advances or retreat. In breeding plumage it shows dark brown upperparts with a black sheen and a broken wing patch marked by a brown-black wedge. The bill, claws, legs, feet and mouth interior are red.
