Trachylaemus purpuratus
The Purple-crested Turaco is a striking bird found in the forests and woodlands of eastern Africa. It is known for its vibrant plumage, which includes a purple crest, green and red wings, and a bright yellow beak. These birds are arboreal, spending much of their time in the canopy where they feed on fruits, leaves, and insects. Their distinctive call can often be heard echoing through the forest. The Purple-crested Turaco plays a vital role in seed dispersal within its habitat, contributing to the diversity of plant life. Despite being relatively common in its range, habitat loss and fragmentation pose threats to its populations.
