Arrival in Arusha and transfer to your accommodation.

Head to bird the plains north of Arusha town for dry-country species, then transfer to the Lake Manyara area for an overnight.

Drive to Lake Manyara National Park with picnic lunch. The park combines groundwater forest, savannah, lake edge and woodland, supporting both big game and more than 400 bird species.

Use a second day in the Lake Manyara area to fill birding gaps from the previous day and revisit productive habitats.

Spend the whole day in Ngorongoro Crater as requested in Johnnie's review comments, rather than rushing onward to Tarangire on the same day.
The crater is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of northern Tanzania's most dramatic birding and wildlife landscapes, with open grassland, wetlands and crater-edge habitats.
After the day in the crater, spend the night in Karatu. Overnight in Karatu on full board.
After breakfast in Karatu, head to Tarangire National Park, an excellent site for both birds and mammals, including Rufous-tailed Weaver, Ashy Starling and Yellow-collared Lovebird.
This national park takes its name from the river that threads through the reserve and is famous for its wildlife concentrations.
Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Tented Camp or similar on full board.
Spend the whole day exploring different habitats of Tarangire with a lunch break, then retire to the tented camp for the night.
