Day 1
Arrival
Arrival in Arusha and transfer to your accommodation.
Dinner and overnight at Korona Villa or similar on full board.
Day 2
Bird Arusha National Park
Breakfast, then bird around the lodge before driving to Arusha National Park for a full day of game viewing and visits to crater lakes.
Look for Maccoa Ducks, Egyptian Geese, Hottentot Teals, Comb Ducks and other waterbirds, while forest around Ngurdoto Crater may produce trogons, parrots, hornbills and turacos.
Dinner and overnight in the Arusha area on full board.
Day 3
Bird Northern Part of Arusha and Transfer to Lake Manyara
Head to bird the plains north of Arusha town for dry-country species, then transfer to the Lake Manyara area for an overnight.
Dinner and overnight at Country Lodge or similar on full board.
Day 4
Lake Manyara National Park Excursion
Drive to Lake Manyara National Park with picnic lunch. The park combines groundwater forest, savannah, lake edge and woodland, supporting both big game and more than 400 bird species.
Depending on water levels, look for pelicans, flamingos, raptors and woodland birds. Dinner and overnight at Country Lodge or similar on full board.
Day 5
Second Day at Lake Manyara National Park
Use a second day in the Lake Manyara area to fill birding gaps from the previous day and revisit productive habitats.
Dinner and overnight at Country Lodge or similar on full board.
Day 6
Full day in Ngorongoro Crater
Spend the whole day in Ngorongoro Crater as requested in Johnnie's review comments, rather than rushing onward to Tarangire on the same day.
The crater is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of northern Tanzania's most dramatic birding and wildlife landscapes, with open grassland, wetlands and crater-edge habitats.
After the day in the crater, spend the night in Karatu. Overnight in Karatu on full board.
Day 7
Transfer to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast in Karatu, head to Tarangire National Park, an excellent site for both birds and mammals, including Rufous-tailed Weaver, Ashy Starling and Yellow-collared Lovebird.
This national park takes its name from the river that threads through the reserve and is famous for its wildlife concentrations.
Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Tented Camp or similar on full board.
Day 8
Explore Tarangire National Park in the AM and PM
Spend the whole day exploring different habitats of Tarangire with a lunch break, then retire to the tented camp for the night.
Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Tented Camp or similar on full board.
Day 9
Departure
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport in time for the departure flight home.
