Variable Sunbird

Cinnyris venustus

The Variable Sunbird (Cinnyris venustus) is a small bird species found in sub-Saharan Africa. The male has a glossy green head, throat, and back, with a bright metallic blue or violet throat patch. The underparts are a striking bright yellow, and the wings and tail are dark brown. The female is less colorful, with olive-green upperparts and yellowish underparts. These sunbirds are known for their swift and agile flight, often hovering while feeding on nectar from flowers. They also consume insects and spiders. They are commonly found in gardens, woodlands, and savannas, and are known for their melodious and varied songs.
