Purple-throated Cotinga

Querula purpurata

The Purple-throated Cotinga is a striking bird found in the tropical forests of South America. It is known for its vibrant plumage, with the male having a deep purple throat and a bright blue body, while the female has more subdued colors. This species is often observed perched high in the canopy, where it feeds on fruits and insects. The Purple-throated Cotinga plays an important role in seed dispersal within its habitat. However, deforestation and habitat loss pose significant threats to its population.
