Cristalino Amazon Birding: Flexible 4–7-day Stay
Explore Amazon forest from Cristalino Lodge, combining canopy towers, varied trails and river access on a private or small-group birding stay of four to seven days.
About this tour
Cristalino Lodge offers a base for exploring Amazon forest from the ground to the canopy. A stay of four to seven days gives time to try a range of reserve trails instead of concentrating on a single viewpoint. Serra dos Tucanos can arrange a private visit or a small-group trip, and the schedule can favor patient photography when that is the main interest.
Two observation towers provide a different perspective from the forest floor, opening up opportunities to watch canopy birds and scan for raptors. The trail network adds changes of habitat and a search for birds closer to the undergrowth. Possibilities include Blue-backed, Red-headed and Snow-capped Manakins, along with antbirds and antthrushes. Pompadour, Spangled and Purple-throated Cotingas are among the birds to look for higher in the trees.
Macaws are another focus. The local list includes Scarlet, Red-and-green, Blue-and-yellow, Blue-winged, Chestnut-fronted and Red-bellied Macaws. More than 580 bird species have been recorded across the Cristalino and Alta Floresta area; that regional record describes its variety, rather than the number to expect on an individual visit. Brazilian Tapir, monkeys and river otters are also possible, although dense forest can make mammals difficult to observe.
Access combines an arrival flight into Alta Floresta with approximately one hour on the road and a further half hour by boat along the Cristalino River. Accommodation choices at the lodge range from standard and superior rooms to several bungalow categories. The reserve covers more than 28,000 acres and adjoins other protected areas. Research, environmental education and responsible-tourism projects are run through the Cristalino Foundation. The final length of stay and room choice can be arranged around the requested birding trip.

Yes. A private or small-group arrangement can devote longer periods to photographic opportunities instead of maximizing the species list.
