Scarlet Macaw, Ara macao, is a parrot of Middle America and South America, breeding from se Mexico to Colombia and across Amazonia. It is a member of the Psittacidae family and was described by Linnaeus in 1758. This bird is known as a large Neotropical parrot of humid evergreen forest, and its range has also included parts of the Americas beyond the breeding area given here, as well as Trinidad and Coiba. It is the national bird of Honduras and is noted for its striking plumage.
