Red-and-yellow Barbet

Trachyphonus erythrocephalus Cabanis, 1878

Red-and-yellow Barbet, Trachyphonus erythrocephalus, is an African barbet of eastern Africa, with a breeding range in the east of the continent. It lives in broken country rather than very open ground or dense woodland, and uses tunnels for nesting and roosting. The male has striking black, red and yellow plumage with white spotting, while females and young are similar but less vivid. It also shows a black forehead and crown, an orange-red nape, and a red bill. It feeds on seeds, fruit and invertebrates.
