About this tour

This 16-day private birding safari traces an unusually varied route across northern Tanzania, beginning with the endemic-rich mountains of the Eastern Arc before turning west toward the country's celebrated savanna parks. Kelvin Matari leads the journey from Arusha through the South Pare, West Usambara and East Usambara mountains, then into Mkomazi, Tarangire, Serengeti and the Ngorongoro highlands.

The first week concentrates on mountain and lowland forest birding. Field time in the South Pare Mountains, Magamba Nature Reserve and Amani Nature Reserve provides opportunities to search for localized birds such as South Pare White-eye, Spot-throat, Usambara Akalat, Amani Sunbird and Long-billed Forest-Warbler. The route also explores dry-country habitat in Mkomazi and specialist grassland around Engikaret's Lark Plains, where Beesley's Lark may be sought when conditions are suitable.

The second half shifts to the broad landscapes of Tanzania's northern safari circuit. Birding and wildlife drives in Tarangire and Serengeti are followed by two days around the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, including the crater floor, Lake Magadi, the Hippo Pool and the surrounding highlands. A final walk on the Endoro Trails adds another forest session before the return to Arusha.

The itinerary balances focused searches with photography time and repeated visits to productive habitats. Named birds are objectives rather than guarantees: sightings depend on season, weather, local conditions and the movements of wild birds. Accommodation follows the sequence supplied by Kelvin, while the final price, departure date, group size and detailed package inclusions are confirmed for each private booking.
