Red-crested Cotinga, Ampelion rubrocristatus, is a passerine of the Cotingidae family that breeds in the Andes of South America from western Venezuela to Bolivia. It also occurs in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It lives in semi-open mountain country, including cloudforest edges, humid woodland with Polylepis, páramo with scattered trees and shrubs, and places beside farmland with trees. The species is a year-round resident. It is notable for its dark grey head and long chestnut-maroon crest, which is usually laid back along the nape, and for the white band on the underside of the tail near the tip.
