Red-faced Malkoha

Phaenicophaeus pyrrhocephalus (Pennant, 1769)

Red-faced Malkoha, Phaenicophaeus pyrrhocephalus, is a cuckoo of Sri Lanka in the order Cuculiformes. It is confined to the island and is most often associated with dense forest, including low country wet zone, sub-montane, montane and riverine forest, with a few records from dry-zone forest. The species is hard to pick out even though it is large. It has a long graduated tail, a dark green back, white underparts, a black crown and throat, a white lower face, and a prominent red area around the eye.
