About this tour

Build a private Sri Lanka route around the time available, preferred pace and priority birds. A shorter programme can concentrate on a carefully chosen set of habitats, while a longer journey can link wet-zone rainforest, the Central Highlands, southern dry-country reserves and productive wetlands. The operator normally plans seven to fourteen days and can discuss an extension when broader coverage is wanted.

Kitulgala and Sinharaja provide lowland forest and opportunities for endemic-rich mixed flocks. Horton Plains, Victoria Park and Hakgala add cool montane habitat, while Yala, Bundala and Udawalawe bring dry forest, lagoons, grassland and open-country birding. Talangama or Anawilundawa can contribute accessible wetland sessions. Depending on the selected circuit, priorities may include Serendib Scops Owl, Green-billed Coucal, Red-faced Malkoha, Sri Lanka Blue Magpie, Junglefowl, Spurfowl, Wood Pigeon, Whistling Thrush, Bush Warbler and Yellow-eared Bulbul.

The most strongly recommended period runs from October through the end of March. Departures can be arranged for an individual, couple or private group of up to ten. A licensed Sri Lankan birding guide leads the field programme, with local assistance used where appropriate. Road transfers use an air-conditioned van, with an experienced driver handling the confirmed circuit. Photography needs can be incorporated, and cultural, wider wildlife, whale-watching or beach extensions may be discussed separately.

Price remains on request because route length, accommodation, park plan, extensions and other special requirements affect the proposal. The final written itinerary confirms the daily sequence, pickup, lodging, meals, entry fees, extension arrangements and payment terms. All target birds remain subject to season, access, weather and wild activity.
