Serendib Scops Owl

Glaucidium mooreorum

The Serendib Scops Owl (Glaucidium mooreorum) is a small owl species endemic to Sri Lanka. It is characterized by its distinctively large, bright yellow eyes and mottled brown plumage, providing excellent camouflage in its forest habitat. This nocturnal bird preys on insects, small mammals, and birds. The Serendib Scops Owl is primarily found in the dense, wet evergreen forests of Sri Lanka, often at elevations of 600-2000 meters. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, this species faces conservation concerns, and its population is declining. Efforts are underway to protect its remaining habitat and raise awareness about its conservation needs.
