Red-rumped Swallow

Cecropis daurica

The Red-rumped Swallow is a small passerine bird with a distinctive red rump and a steel-blue crown. It has a white face and a chestnut throat, with a long, deeply forked tail. These agile birds are known for their graceful aerial acrobatics as they feed on flying insects. They are commonly found in open habitats such as grasslands, savannas, and agricultural areas. During the breeding season, they build cup-shaped nests from mud and grass, often under the eaves of buildings. Red-rumped Swallows are migratory birds, spending the winter in sub-Saharan Africa. They are known for their cheerful twittering calls and are often seen in small flocks during migration.
