Red-tailed Wheatear

Oenanthe chrysopygia (de Filippi, 1863)

Red-tailed Wheatear, Oenanthe chrysopygia, breeds in the Palearctic from Armenia east to central Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan. It is a passerine in the family Muscicapidae, and was described by de Filippi in 1863. A small wheatear of mountainous country, it is now treated as a separate species. It was once placed with the Kurdish wheatear, and birds from the eastern part of its range are a little paler and are sometimes given subspecific status as O. c. kingi.
