Red-throated Caracara, Ibycter americanus, is a bird of prey in Falconidae that breeds from southern Mexico through South America to southern Brazil. It is the only member of its genus. In the field it is set apart from the black caracara by its larger build and by the red bare skin on the face and throat, with black feathers scattered on the throat. It lives in humid lowland and montane forests, and also uses the forest understory. Its range includes Middle America and much of tropical South America.
