Ruby-topaz Hummingbird, Chrysolampis mosquitus, breeds from eastern Panama through much of northern and central South America to north-eastern Argentina. It is a hummingbird in the family Trochilidae and the only species in its genus. The species was first described by Linnaeus in 1758. It occurs in open savanna-like country, shrubby dry hills, gardens and cultivated places, and is also present on the ABC Islands and Trinidad and Tobago. Its range includes Suriname, where the type locality lies, and it is known from several countries across the Caribbean and mainland South America.
