Rufous-collared Sparrow, Zonotrichia capensis, is a New World sparrow found across Middle America and South America from southern Mexico to southern Argentina, with a further population on Hispaniola. It occurs in a wide range of habitats and is often close to people. Also known as the Andean sparrow, it is notable for its varied vocalisations, which have been the subject of extensive study since the 1970s. Local names include tico-tico, mariquinha, Pichitanka, copetón, chingolo, chincol, comemaíz and Cigua de Constanza.
