Scytalopus sanctaemartae
The Santa Marta Tapaculo is a small, secretive bird species found in the cloud forests of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia. It is known for its distinctive song and is often heard rather than seen due to its elusive nature. This species forages on the forest floor for insects and small invertebrates, using its slender bill to probe leaf litter and moss. The Santa Marta Tapaculo is highly adapted to its montane habitat, with its plumage providing excellent camouflage among the dense vegetation. Due to its restricted range and habitat loss, this species is considered vulnerable to extinction.
